SYDNEY, 22 September 2008 – Digital media migration specialists DAMsmart today announced details of their new business partner relationship with IBM Australia. The partnership provides specialist media archiving by combining DAMsmart’s digital media migration solution with IBM’s leading data storage and information management systems.

DAMsmart MD Ron Anderson said, “This is a landmark partnership for both organizations and came as a result of a long term working relationship between our Media Migration Manager, Joe Kelly, and the IBM team in Canberra. When we all sat around the table it was clear that our DAMsmart!! digital media migration system was a perfect fit for IBM’s future expansion plans in this area.”

With common opportunities already identified including media, government, corporate and broadcast markets, IBM saw a great opportunity in partnering with DAMsmart.

Colin Brinkman, Channel Manager of IBM Australia said “Due to the unique nature of the DAMsmart IBM partnership we are able to successfully leverage a wide range of our hardware, software and services offerings, particularly in the media and entertainment markets. The real advantage for our clients is the perfect fit between our products, strategies, goals and objectives which have already led to some groundbreaking solutions being offered.”

Ron Anderson added, “With our new partnership and utilizing DAMsmart!, we now add a unique digital media migration layer to IBM’s efficient storage solutions. DAMsmart! allows the successful transfer of all digital media into a safe IBM storage environment. All bases are covered and the options for efficiently ‘moving and storing’ media have now increased significantly.”

Projects currently under consideration include many government and corporate business organisations requiring scalable migration and storage solutions for valuable archival media collection.

Ron Anderson concluded, “IBM completed a successful proof of concept at our Canberra migration facility and this specification and performance data has formed the blueprint for our current digital archiving projects. Our partnership with IBM is an exciting one for both organizations and more importantly, an extremely valuable one for all of our clients.”

Why digitise?

Film, video & audio can start to deteriorate in as little as 10 to 15 years. It's inevitable and irreversible. Plus it's becoming harder to find devices to play them. The only way to preserve our media - to monetise it, to share its cultural significance - is to convert it to a digital format.

We're specialists

We've digitised more than 100,000 hours of video and film per year. That's over 17 years of non-stop footage!
